A New Operating System inspired by the Back-to-Back World Cup Rugby Champions
On 16 September 2017 the world's champion rugby team suffered the heaviest defeat in their history, 57-0. Six years later they were back-to-back world champions, beating France, England and New Zealand in successive knockouts by a single point each. Many of the same players were on the field for both. What changed wasn't the talent. It was the system around the talent.
This keynote decodes that system, from the environment the leaders built to the standards the squad enforced, and lands on the first moves your people can make on Monday morning.
I've spent close to three decades inside banks and other large organisations, leading change that had to work for the customer and for the people doing the work at the same time. That taught me something the world's greatest teams already know. Results on their own don't last. What lasts is the people you grow along the way and a culture that still holds when the pressure arrives. That's what your room leaves with.
